Plastic wrap is not only good for wrapping food it is perfect for giving centerpieces that snowy or icy look. With just a long, long piece of plastic wrap you can create many interesting looks with your centerpiece.
To make this, pick any clear glass vase. Fill the bottom of the vase with greenery from your yard. Boxwood, holly, and other evergreens work well. Pull a very long piece of plastic wrap from its box and crumple it up over the greenery. Place a layer of cranberries, then another layer of plastic. Fill slowly with water and top with berries, tea lights, and more greenery. Be sure none of the greenery will interfere with the candle's flame.
I have even made these with only the plastic wrap and tea light which is very elegant. The plastic has a tendency to float up so you do need a lot of it. Keep pushing it down as you add the water. Sometimes it takes a bit of finagling to get it to look right but keep working for the look you want.
In the centerpiece below, I loosely packed the plastic wrap for a more icy look instead of snowy. I added the water then used a butter knife to work the plastic into the corners. I think this is very pretty as well.
Icy or snowy, you decide! Enjoy, I would love to see what you come up with.

Great job, looks beautiful!
Does Martha Know about you? She better watch her back.
This is so pretty. I love it! I am going to try this, for sure.
I LOVE this idea!Who would've thought?
Loved the auntie story. Back in the 70's-early 80's(?) there was a book that was to help your marriage. One of the "suggestions" was to greet your husband when he came home from work wrapped in only plastic wrap. Don't know of anyone who did it but it sure got a lot of talk on TV and among our friends and family.
What a cool idea- I love it! Thanks
I love it! Another decorating idea. I like the plastic wrap with water. It looks like a block of ice. I have to try it.
This is such an awesome idea! Love it! I have to make one.
So clever! I never would have thought to use plastic wrap. It looks so pretty!
What a nifty and pretty idea! My mother is here visiting and says we'll try this on the weekend. Thanks, Robin.
What a beautiful idea! I have a rectangle vase, and I am going to put this on my kitchen table!
What a great, inexpensive way to decorate! love it!
What a great idea! I am amazed at your creativity :) This is brilliant.
Great idea, love the photos!
how completely brilliant! does it still work if you've used the plastic wrap and it has cookie crumbs all over it? :)
So beautiful and creative!! I am doing a fundraiser banquet for a local non-profit in February and these would be PERFECT on the dessert table. Do you have any other ideas on what I could float? Our colors are black and lime green and I would love to share this idea with our decorating committee. Thank you SO much.
Brilliant! I forwarded the link to my MIL for her church decorating this Christmas and she loved it!
Grace- even better!
Karen- Whole limes would be pretty but I don't think they float! Experiment away I say! Thanks for the comments.
Tartelette- Thanks for forwarding this to your mom. I hope she can use this idea. Like I said it takes finagling but in the end it is pretty. I am sure she can make something beautiful at her church!
I'm just a stranger passing through, so maybe I'm more objective than the other comment posters, but I think the centerpiece is really unattractive. It looks like wet platic wrap. Don't think I'd want to put it out where people would see it.
Sarah
Anonymous Sarah- Thanks for your honesty. It takes guts to say what you said.
It's a beautiful creation.....I'm going to make it as my holiday party centerpieces with just a little twist to bring the classic elegance.
Thanks for a wonderful idea!
