Fancy Brownies

This is a quick and simple post because I am swamped this week. A while ago a friend showed me how to fancy up regular brownies by adding a layer of buttercream frosting and a chocolate glaze. If you have any leftover buttercream frosting this recipe will go together faster for you. Or if you must, you may use canned frosting. So for busy days when I don't have time to be fancy, I remember recipes like this and realize I can.

Fancy Brownies
One large brownie mix- I like Duncan Hines
1 1/2- 2 cups buttercream frosting
1 stick butter
4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips

Bake brownies in a 9x13 inch pan according to package directions. Cool and frost with buttercream frosting so that it is about 1/4 inch thick. Melt butter and add chocolate chips and stir until the glaze is smooth. Pour glaze over buttercream and spread evenly. Let the glaze set, slice brownies and serve. Makes 24 brownies.

Update- It's a crazy week but I am hanging in there. My friend Bobby and I are feeding 30 hungry children tomorrow after the play rehearsal. Then on Friday feeding about 100 people during the play's intermission plus feeding the children after the play. I think my friend Bobby and I will be all catered out. My friend Sheila and her daughter Amber are the directors and really have the biggest task of all. My kids are so excited. The boys are in a scene together playing Tweedledum and Tweedledee and Daelyn plays a duck. So cute.

oneordinaryday- I had chilled the brownies a bit and cleaned the knife with a cloth with each cut.

And the best part is that you can change the flavor of the buttercream to really fancy them up - mint, orange, chocolate.....

That Girl- Yes yes yes!! Mmm orange would be wonderful!

Perfect timing - I need a dessert to make for MOPS tomorrow! I happen to have cream cheese frosting on hand, so hopefully that will be just as tasty. Thanks, too, for the tips on cutting! Danielle

What a great idea! I bet plain old peanut butter (I love TJ's unsalted) would be good in there, too.

Robin, Your blog was my very first discovered last summer and being a creature of habit, I read Big Red Kitchen FIRST every morning.
You are so real and I love what you cook!
At the risk of criticizing you, some of your grammar today was not up to your standards.
Read it again, and see what you think?

These were yummy! I took part of the batch on a road trip, but I left them and the car. Let's just say they're stuck to the top of the container now.

Now why have I never thought of this? These are gorgeous! I always have brownie mix in the cupboard and I have leftover cream cheese frosting in the frig. These could be happening at my house tonight!

Those are gorgeous. I would not be able to resist that chocolate sheen on the top! In the brownie mode myself ... DH complained that we had no treats so I made Cathy's (noble pig) Katharine Hepburn brownies again (gluten free, of course). It's nice to have fabulous brownie choices among my blogger buddies!

I have made these delicious, decadent brownies, and boy are they good! I highly recommend using Betty Crocker's Whipped Butter Cream Frosting for this recipe. Not only does it make these bars taste incredible, but it's the whipped butter cream frosting that makes these brownies smell so heavenly good!! For those who have thought about making these brownies, but haven't done so just yet... This is one brownie recipe you must try! As these brownies are to die for!! Robin Sue, thanx for posting this recipe on your blog. My family enjoyed them, and so did I.
