Cookie Dough Pie

It's a trick actually. There is no cookie dough in this pie at all. Just cookies made so they seem like cookie dough. Magical really. This pie could easily be named 1.2.3. Pie as there are only 3 ingredients, cookies are dipped at a super, quick count of three, and the whole thing takes about three minutes to make. Well maybe more but who's counting, right?

My little niece, Mia ate this and said, "Hey did you put cookie dough in here?" She said the same thing I did when I first tasted this pie back in our Army days when a friend made this for me. She wouldn't even give me the recipe she was so embarrassed by its simplicity. But she finally did and so will I.

Cookie Dough Pie
15.25 ounce package Chips Ahoy Cookies- Original kind
8-12 ounces Cool Whip- I used 8 ounces
2 cups milk*

Quickly dip cookies in milk, shake off excess liquid, and layer in 9 inch pie plate, breaking cookies to fill any gaps. Once the first layer is complete, top with a thin layer of Cool Whip. Repeat twice more making last layer of Cool Whip a bit thicker. Garnish with chocolate syrup if desired. Place in freezer 2-3 hours before serving. Serves 6-8.

*Last night I used 1 C. strong coffee mixed with 1 C. milk for dipping instead of plain milk. Very nice.

Note- You must dip quickly or your pie will be very soggy. Make sure to shake off excess milk as well so that you do not have a puddle of milk in your pie. You will have leftover milk but you do need that amount to get the cookie completely immersed. The final product will be like a soft cookie dough-like consistency. On the right is the pattern I made on top of the pie with chocolate syrup.

Can you imagine other cookie combinations? My brother and I speculated about Samoas, Oreos, Lorna Doones, or a bit of espresso powder mixed into the Cool Whip? Mmm, mmm, mmm. Of course the Italians call their version Tiramisu.

Oh my gosh, that is a crazy pie! I love the whole idea, but does it taste like you're eating cool whip?

Robin Sue said...

oneordinaryday- Not really. I made sure my cool whip layers were very thin between the cookies.

I already dip my cookies in milk so this pie would be right up my alley.

Now just to find fow to hide it from my kids.

Hahaha I love you simple and deceptive this is. From your first picture, I would never have guessed that this is how you made it :P

This is so great! I showed it to my daughter before she went to school--"so cool," she said. Definitely will make it. Check out the chocolate mug cake under kids on my blog--if you haven't already tried this with your niece, it's a must, too.

That is simply adorable! I have to make it. My question is...is it easy to cut...or does it fall apart easily. And you said you used coffee and milk...that was for the dipping? AND...did you swirl chocolate syrup on top?

Julie P said...

Fabulous. I can not wait to make this!

Robin Sue said...

Noble Pig- It was fairly easy to cut, the first piece of any pie is not good! The pie had been frozen about 2 hours when I cut it, so it did stay together. I usually use milk but last night I dipped it in coffee with lots of milk in it for the dipping. I'll put a picture of the top on here so you can see it. RS

I would love to make this (right now actually), but I can't buy coolwhip where I live. Do you suppose I could substitute homemade whipped cream?

Thanks for a great recipe!

Robin Sue, This is so wonderful that I want to make it the next time my granddaughter comes to visit. You are always an inspiration.

This is the kind of dessert my husband would love! We always have chocolate chip cookies and cool whip on hand!

Nyree said...

Mmm, looks yummy! But what is cool whip? I don't think it's available in Scotland, is there something else I could use?

Robin Sue said...

Nyree- You can use about 3 cups homemade sweetened whipped cream. Thanks for stopping in!

Linda said...

Are the cookies crunchy at all? Softly crunchy? :)

Since it needs to be frozen first, I'm wondering how it would hold up served at a family get-together or church potluck.

I'm just fascinated with how good it looks!

Robin Sue said...

Linda- The cookies soften fast, so be sure to dip quick! The pie can be refrigerated or put in the freezer for 2-3 hours before serving. If there are any leftovers I do store it in the freezer. Either way though really. My son liked the leftover frozen though. It is a very flexible pie, almost no rules- Only dip quick! When my friend made it she put it in the frige and never the freezer.

are you kidding me with this? three ingredients, all of which are fantastic? cookies? pie? this is stellar, robin sue, thanks for sharing it!

Robin Sue, this one dangerous post for me to be viewing - just before lunch. I love how evil and delicious this is.

Very professional looking dessert. I love how you did the marbling cover. And oh my, you can never go wrong with cookie dough.

Linda said...

Robin...I love this! How about putting a little Kahlua in the coffee and milk for a grown up version? This is so easy and fun!
Also, a note on the ricotta cake. It is pretty rich with a 2lb container of ricotta, but considering it makes a 13 x 9-in baking dish, it is not too bad.
It is really good though!!

Sounds delish! I'm excited to try. I linked to it at somedaycrafts(dot)blogspot(dot)com

What an awesome idea! This recipe reminds me of a cake that my family got for my birthday one year - from TCBY - my favorite!

Kami @ Home of 5 said...

I love this idea! How brilliant! And this is coming from a "from scratch" baker and yes, I WILL be making this. :)

Question - You say to repeat the layering twice, but I only see two layers total. Am I just not seeing a third layer or are they only two total?

Thanks!!

oh my gosh, my husband loves Chips Ahoy cookies- I will definitely be making this for him!!! (I might be persuaded to partake of it, as well...)
Thanks for what looks like a delightful recipe, Robin Sue- I can't wait to try it!

Robin Sue said...

Kami- It is hard to see from the picture but there are three layers of cookies in there. I put a real thin line of Coolwhip there so I guess it looks like only two. Enjoy making this! Dip quick!

Linda said...

I made this in an 11 X 7 inch pan and it was delish! I'm going to make it when my son & family come later this month--they will love it too.

Maybe I dipped the cookies too fast or maybe I froze the dessert too soon after making it, but the cookies were fairly crunchy instead of cookie-doughy. Maybe they will soften as it sits out--waiting for us to polish it off :) However it is still delicious!

I ended up with 2 layers of cookies & 2 layers of Cool Whip--I might try it in the pie pan next time.

Thank you for sharing!!

Kami @ Home of 5 said...

Okay, 3 layers it is! Good thing I have deep pie pans.

My kids are having a "baking day" tomorrow, so while my 8yo makes brownies in the real oven, my 4yo can be making this without hurting himself.

Thanks!!

I enjoyed making this last night and I am enjoying eating it today, along with the kids and their friends there's not much left! I used a dusting of cocoa powder on top as Ive no choc. sauce. Next time I'm gonna add crushed fresh raspberries in the layers and raspberry sauce drizzled on top. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe!

(maybe for grown-ups only) Try dipping the cookies in sweet sherry or your favourite liqueur - it's quite incredible!

WOW! This looks delicious; I think I found my new favorite dessert. The best part about it all is that it's so easy. I prefer homemade cookies as opposed to store-bought, do you know if it will work just as well if I make my own cookies?

Robin Sue said...

Tanya- I have only done it with the Chips Ahoy but I would imagine homemade should work fine. Let us know!

Si @ Leadership Styles said...

Wow - I have to say I'm not a huge fan of milk - but I think that this recipe shouldn't actually taste too milky at all?

jenny mae. said...

have you ever tried this with other kinds of cookies? oreos? etc? this is currently chilling in my fridge. can't wait to bite in!

Robin Sue said...

jenny mae- I have not done this with other cookies but I would think that certain ones would be good! Oatmeal cookies? Oreos? Someone needs to try it out and let us know!

celestejohnson said...

Ok, I have tried this and it was a big hit, so I thought about what other cookies I could use. So let me tell you which ones I tried and how they turned out.

Pecan Sandies. I also drizzled caramel on top instead of chocolate. I didn't care for it much but my husband liked it.

Chips Deluxe Coconut. Between each layer of whipped cream and cookie, I sprinkled some sweetened flaked coconut on. Then when done, I drizzled chocolate syrup on top and then sprinkled a bit more coconut on top. I LOVED this one! It was VERY good.

I was going to use the Chips Deluxe Peanut Butter Cookies, but the oz of the bag was only 15 so I just bought the original kind and then a couple Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. So between the layers of whipped cream and cookie, I sprinkled some chunks of chopped up Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Then I also drizzled with chocolate and sprinkled with more chopped up cups. This one was FABULOUS! It went the fastest.

When I try more variations, I will post how well they turned out.
