For the 4th, we completely forgot to make plans until it was too late. How did it get to be the 4th so suddenly, but there is was. I had a fridge full of pastured beef for burgers, we had some un-cured dogs, fresh fruit, and when we found out our friends didn’t have plans as well, we had a party! I saw a nice post for 6 Foods you Never Knew You Could Grill, well, I knew about some of them, but had never thought to grill skewers of fresh strawberries. Let me say, they were fantastic hot off the grill atop the delicious, huge green salad our friends brought.
If only you could smell them! I didn’t put anything on the berries, they didn’t need it. You could take the leaves off if you want, although I think they are pretty.
Now this one is a hoot! Spiral-cut hot dogs. I saw this on chow.com. Its a quick little video showing how to spiral-cut hot dogs correctly. Too bad they don’t have the How-to for Left Handed People video. I killed 3 hot dogs before I got it right. Stop laughing because I throw a mean javelin… right handed. Really, I do. The more surface area to innards ratio is what you want when grilling dogs. All the more to get charred and crispy. We loved these, so give them a try, and if you are left handed, buy 3 extra.
And by the way, my Sweet Hot Jalapenos was the huge condiment Super Hero on the dogs, burgers, meatballs, salad… you name it, they were there.
What fun things have you tried lately?

grilled berries sound fabulous, but the hot dogs are kind of what i’m drooling over right now…and you’re right, more charred surface area = the best kind of hot dog!
Ha.. I saw the video on the spiral cut hot dogs last week. I’m right handed and still killed 2 dogs. The third one came out okay. I think it’s a cute idea. I’m going to have to throw some strawberries on the grill, I see!
Love grilled fruit! Never tried strawberries. Next on my list.
